the shawl that got those ig likes

I sit here watching Netflix knowing that I finally need to get this blog started, but all I can manage is this blank page.  I know that I want a place to log my various craft type projects I throw myself into, but I don't know how to begin it.

I decided to start it, with what I feel is a very successful feat and something I am extremely proud of.
Late August I began the project of my very first shawl.  I don't know what it is about knitting, but I'm obsessed with making hats, scarves, and socks. Sweaters and shawls just always seemed to scare me.  I don't know if it's because after various attempts of blankets, I have never finished a single one and the length that those specific projects require that I just end up giving up and never finishing.  I stuck to my guns and finished the shawl.
The shawl of choice became The Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West.  It sat on my Ravelry queue for well over 2 years and I continually skipped over it, because of the odd fear of shawls and sweaters.

The yarn of choice was Feederbrook Farms Entropy DK in a Yarnbox exclusive green gradient and Knitted Wit Polwarth Shimmer in Black Forest.  I have absolutely no clue where I got the Knitted Wit from.  I think it was from back when I participated in Ravelry swaps.
The knitting began!  No projects in between, just every chance I felt the urge to knit, there was a lull at work, I plugged away at the very simple shawl.  After about a week into the shawl, and switching the colors every pattern repeat, I realized that with two skeins of Feederbrook and only one of the Knitted Wit, I just would not have enough to make a decent size shawl.  I ripped the project all the way back to the original repeat to do two pattern repeats of Feederbrook and then one repeat of Knitted Wit.
The yardage ended up perfect and a month later I finally finished my very first shawl.  I kind of gawked at it the first day and was unable to block it.  I couldn't believe that I sat and actually attempted a new knitting project.  The pattern is basic in it's own with knitting all the way across and making a few stitches here and there, but to actually stick to my guns and make a shawl.
Naturally in my excitement, I posted it to IG, ran to Ravelry to complete the project and share it with the yarnbox group and the feedback was tremendous.  I have always loved Ravelry group knitters and their encouraging words with completely project.  Their kind praise made it even more fun to have completed my very first shawl.
When Stephen West liked it on IG, I really began to hyperventilate.  On top of that Yarnbox reposted my IG picture and it received 395 likes.
I showed my little one, as my natural model, that she was a superstar on instagram and she was ecstatic.  She kept telling everyone she was famous.
The likes and compliments from the yarnbox share confirmed my new addiction to shawl making.  My new shawl project will be the Country Song Shawl by Gabrielle Vezina as part of a KAL she has going on in her Ravelry Group.
